      1914/15 Star named J 21672 W R HANN AB RN & British War Medal named J 21672 W R HANN LS RN.


      William Roger Hann born 21st Jun 1897 in Bournemouth was a van boy when he joined the Royal Navy numbered J21672 on 22nd Dec 1912 as a Boy 2nd class. He was on HMS Iron Duke when WW1 started as an Ordinary Seaman and took part in the Battle of Jutland in May 1916 in which she hit SS Konig seven times. She also claims on sinking SMS S35 in the melee of the fighting. William left her on 3rd Jul 1916 joining HMS Excellent till 11th Sep 1916 when he joined HMS Renown till the end of the war, Prince of Wales used her for a tour of Canada and USA in Apr 1919. William left her 1st Nov 1920. He stayed in the Navy becoming an RPO in Dec 1925 and received his LS&GC in 1930 at HMS Vernon. He on HMS Hawkins in the East Indies until he retired in 1937.

      WW2 came and by now he was 42 years old and he rejoined as an MAA at Royal Arthur for training sailors but left in 1944 due to health.
