      Description:

1914/15 Star named 1391 LCPL W ALDOWS LAN FUS. Note name and initial different. There is also 2 separate MIC as well showing the two different names and initials. Also interesting that the Aldows MIC shows date of death as 9th Dec 1915 rather than the official 19th Dec 1915.

George Henry Aldous born in Salford, Lancashire enlisted into the 1/7th Lancashire Fusiliers numbered 1391.

Landed in Gallipoli on 5th May 1915. On 19th Dec 1915 they let off some mines near Cawleys Crater and occupied them. The enemy bombarded their positions for 1 1/2 hours but did no serious damage. Our guns responded and was seen to do some damage to their trenches. The enemy counter attacked but were driven back at a cost of 5 other ranks killed and 11 wounded.

Sadly George was one of the killed in action and he is remembered in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetry. Son of Mrs. Aldous, of 84, West Worsley Street, Salford, Lancashire.
