1914/15 Star named PLY 15689 PTE H G MARSHALL RMLI.
Henry George Marhsall born 17th Mar 1894 in Maguires Bridge, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. He was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted into the Royal Marine Light Infantry numbered PLY 15689 in the Plymouth Division on 3rd Jun 1912. During WW1 his first ship was HMS Essex patrolling the the American, Caribbean and Canary Islands coasts. Next was HMS Drake from 1st Mar 1917, but on 2nd Oct 1917 during a convoy was struck by a torpedo fired by U79 German Submarine and sank off the coast of Northern Ireland with the loss of 18 lives. Henry was rescued and his next ship was HMS Glory from 9th Dec 1917 which escorted merchant ships to Russia and back till 28th Oct 1918. Discharged 12th Jun 1933 after 23 years service. He died on 15th Jan 1937.
