William Whitson Myles son of Dr T P Myles & Euphrmia G Myles nee Whitson of Castle Street, Brechin, Forfarshire. He was born 19th Feb 1896 at Brechin and educated at Brechin High School and Ley's School, Cambridge. Also at Caius College, Cambridge when WW1 broke out so volunteered for service. After Officers Training Corps he was granted a commission in the 10th Scottish Rifles early in 1915 and went to France on 4th Oct 1915. On the 15th Sept 1916 at the Battle of Cambria famous for the mass tank attack, William was attached to the 46th Trench Mortar Battery during the battle. He was twice wounded in action on that day, along with fellow officers Lt Ferguson & Brickman. Sadly on the 20th Sept 1916, five days after being wounded William died of his wounds aged 20 years old.
