Michael Callaghan born 25th Oct 1883 in Riverstown, Cork was a Crane Driver when he enlisted into the Royal Navy numbered 309167 on 6th Nov 1905 for 12 years. He was trained as a Stoker 2nd Class and was on HMS Donegal till 9th Apr 1906, HMS Monmouth till 12th Apr 1906, HMS Europa till 31st May 1907, HMS Hague till 17th Sept 1907, HMS Amphirite till 11th Nov 1907, HMS Kent till 14th Dec 1909, HMS Niobe till 25th Jan 1910, HMS Hood till 31st Oct 1912, HMS Indus till 11th Apr 1913. By now he was a Leading Stoker. When WW1 he was on HMS Centurion and took part in the Battle of Jutland being promoted to Stoker Petty Officer and left her on 27th Aug 1917. He joined HMS Erin on 9th Aug 1917 till 17th Dec 1919. After the war he continued his career until 11th Nov 1927. He managed to be awarded a LS&GC even though he spent 7 days in Jail in 1908.
