      1914/15 Star named 2269 PTE J D DAVIDSON R SCOTS, British War & Victory Medals named 2 LIEUT J D DAVIDSON.

      John Dewar Davidson born 6th May 1894 in Edinburgh and worked in a solicitors office. He was in the Officers Training Corps Junior Division in 1907-1910 and then left school. He joined the 9th Royal Scots when war broke out numbered 2269 Pte and landed in France on 24th Feb 1915 with them. On the 23rd April the battalion was ordered to attack near St Jean with the DCLI and York & Lancs regiments and over 100 men were wounded or killed in this action including John who was wounded by a bullet to his left thigh.

      He was sent back to the UK and gained a commission in the Argyll & Highlanders in Dec 1915 and went back out to France with them as his pair are named 2nd Lt. At a later stage he moved to the 40th Labour Company but did not serve overseas with them.
