1914/15 Star named A-1812 PTE W HEMS K R RIF C, British War & Victory Medals named 1812 PTE W HEMS KRRC.
William Hems enlisted into the 8th Kings Royal Rifle Corps B Coy numbered 1812 on 19th May 1915 and landed in France with them on 19th May 1915. He is wounded in right arm around 21 Aug 1915 and sent back to the UK as in London Hospital on 23rd Aug 1916. He is back in France with the 8th Battalion from 9th Mar 1916 till he is wounded again this time a serious wound around 6th July 1916 and is sent back to the UK.
He recovers and is transferred to the 20th London Regt numbered 630025. He is sent to Salonica from 3rd Feb 1917 to 14th June 1917 when he is now sent to Egypt and is noted as being wounded again around May 1918. He stays in Egypt till 2nd July 1918 when he goes back to France till 23rd Aug 1918. He survives the war.
