William Bruther born in 1845 in Youghall, Cork, Ireland was a 19 year old labourer when he enlisted into the 41st Foot on 13th May 1864 numbered 726. He transferred to the 66th Foot on 1st Sep 1874 and then transferred to the 2/14th Foot on 1st Jan 1881 till he left due to illness on 17th Mar 1885 after 20 years service. He spent 19 years in East India from 25th Jul 1865 to 2nd Feb 1885. The Afghanistan Medal is his only entitlement.
