Afghanistan Medal clasps Kabul & Kandahar engraved naming 1853 PTE J DONAGHEY 9TH LANCERS.
James Donaghey born in 1861 in Banagher, Londonderry, Northern Ireland enlisted into the 9th Lancers numbered 1853. The regiment was sent to Afghanistan in 1878 and took part in the famous battle of Battle of Killa Kazi charging against vastly superior Afghan forces in attempts to save the guns of F Battery, A Brigade RHA and the march and battle at Kandahar. James sadly died in service on 18th Jan 1884 in Umballa, India from fever aged only 22 years old.
