Robert Ernest Jeffries began his training as a Cadet with the RAOC late on in WW2, receiving a commission as 2nd Lieutenant on 21 January 1945. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 7 October 1946, promoted to Captain on 24 September 1951, and served in Kenya, receiving an AGSM. He relinquished his commission upon completion of service on 7 October 1955, at the rank of Captain.
