George Graves Bowring was born in Bengal, India on 23rd Feb 1855, the Son of Capt George Gardener Bowring of 59th Native Infantry who died on 3rd Aug 1855. In the 1871 Census he was a cadet at the Royal Military College. He must have applied for a position in the Control Department as a Assistant Commissary General and then was in Honduras in 1871 and then in the Ashantee War and then resigned.
