Henry Sweatman born 5th Feb 1857 in St Marys, Bedford enlisted into the Royal Navy numbered 19178 as Boy 2nd Class on 5th Feb 1872. His first ship was HMS Boscawen till 7th Mar 1873 as a Boy 1st Class and renumbered 56037. HMS Excellent till 30th May 1873, HMS Hector till 5th Jun 1873, HMS Excellent again till 26th Aug 1873 and then HMS Encounter as Ordinary 2nd Class, Ordinary Seaman and Able Seaman till 14th Dec 1877 when he earned his Ashantee Medal.
HMS Excellent again till 25th Sep 1878, HMS Endymion till 31st Jul 1879, HMS Audacious till 17th May 1880, HMS Excellent again till 23rd Aug 1880 and finally HMS Inconstant till 3rd Nov 1882 when he was discharged to pension.
