      Ashantee Medal no clasp named S AXFORD STOKER HMS BEACON 73-74.


      Samuel Axford born Middlesex, London on 22nd Sep 1848 enlisted into the Royal Navy on 23rd Feb 1871 as a Stoker 2nd Class. His first ship was HMS Indus till 14th Dec 1871, HMS Lord Clyde till 9th May 1872, HMS Hibernia till 13th Jun 1872 as a Stoker, HMS Defence till 2nd Aug 1872 when he was paid off to Reserves.

      HMS Pembroke from 1 Apr 1873 till 10th July 1873, HMS Beacon till 16th Oct 1873 when he earned the Ashantee Medal, HMS Simoom till 25th Oct 1873 and back to HMS Brecon till 27th Jan 1874. HMS Rattlesnake till 6th Mar 1874, HMS Duke of Wellington till 25th Apr 1874 and finally HMS Pembroke again till 3rd Jul 1874 when he was invalid off to Melville Hospital, Chatham.
