      British War Medal named 2158 PTE E GOODLET HIGH LI.

      Edward Goodlet born in 1890 in Wishaw, Lanarkshire and lived in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire who was a miner at Gilbertfield Colliery, Cambuslang. He enlisted in Aug 1914 into the Highland Light Infantry numbered 2158 after training he landed in Gallipoli on 2nd July 1915.

      On 12th July 1915 the battalion attacked in waves the Turkish trenches at Gallipoli Peninsula after bombardments in the morning and afternoon. All three objectives were taken and held over night. The fighting carried on till 15th July when the battalion was retired after suffering 4 officers killed and 4 wounded, other ranks killed 40, with 140 wounded and 53 missing, a total of 242 casualties. Edward was reported missing and then presumed killed in action on the start of the action, the 12th July 1915 and he is remembered on the Helles Memorial aged only 25 years old.
