      China Medal 1900 no clasp named PLY/5443 PTE F A HINE RMLI HMS REDPOLE.


      Fred Algar born 6th Feb 1872 at Exeter enlisted into the Royal Marine Light Infantry numbered PLY/5443 on 6th Oct 1890 aged 18 years old. He served on HMS Racoon & Magpie between 4th Mar 1894 & 11th June 1896 and on 23rd to 25th June 1895 took part in the expedition against Arab Chief Mbarak Bin Rash. He later served on another gunboat HMS Redpole during the China Boxer rebellion of 1900 and was awarded a China Medal. Further service with HMS Sparton, Diana & Mars before leaving service in 1911. When WW1 started he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve on HMS Albion and was discharged sick and awarded a Silver War Badge. He died on 24th Mar 1902 and has a CWGC grave stone. Awarded China Medal, 1914/15 Trio.
