Luke Parris born in Arlington, Sussex enlisted into the Royal Artillery numbered 956 on 3rd Mar 1840 as a 17-year old labourer. He was imprisoned for a twenty days in Aug 1843. He served in Canada for 2 1/2 years, West Indies for 5 years and Crimea for 8 months earning him the Crimea Medal with clasp Sebastopol. He left service after 21 years service on 9th Aug 1861. It looks like he joined the Coast Brigade Royal Artillery after leaving the army.
