William James Port born 12th Aug 1869 in Holborton, Devon was a 17 year old labourer when he enlisted into the Royal Navy numbered 144731 on 6th Mar 1888. He was awarded his LS&GC on 5th Mar 1910 whilst stationed at HMS Vivid by this time a Petty Officer Stoker by then shore pensioned. He came back for WW1 with the Royal Fleet Reserve B3050 from 25th Feb 1911. During WW1 he served on HMS Suffolk between May 1915 and Aug 1916. Then later HMS Cumberland between June 1917 to 8th Feb 1919 when he was discharged after 30 years service. He is also entitled to 1914/15 Trio.
