General Service Medal clasp Malaya named CAPT J C HERBERT R SIGS.
John Chaplin Herbert born 1911 in Wandsworth, enlisted during WW2 into the Royal Signals Corps numbered 171973 and was a Sgt when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in Nov 1940. He was captured as a A/Capt at the last stand at Kalamata, Greece when Britain sent forces to help the Greeks against the Nazis. He was taken prisoner and notified on 28th April 1941. He stayed in the army after the war making a Capt in Dec 1951 and left in Mar 1961.
He died in 1989 near Canterbury, Kent aged 78 years old.
