Indian General Service Medal clasp Hazara 1888 script naming 905 PTE J CARROLL 2ND BN NORTH'D FUS.
John Carroll born 1866 and lived in Durham enlisted into the Northumberland Fusiliers numbered 905 aged 19 years old on 24th Mar 1885 and after training went to India on 24th Sep 1886. It appears he enlisted again into the Northumberland Fusiliers numbered 25/132 for WW1 on 19th Nov 1914 by now 53 years old. He served in the 85th Training Reserve Battalion till 18th Dec 1917 went he was discharge to sickness earning him a Silver War Badge but no medals for WW1.
