Service papers included state Herbert Wright enlisted into the Devonshire Regiment numbered 3298 on 28th Sept 1891 as a 19 year old White Smith from White Capel, London. After training he was sent to India on 17th Dec 1892 till he was sent home on 1st Dec 1899 Sent to South Africa on 20th Oct 1899 and earned a South Africa Medal with 5 clasps Orange Free State, Transvaal, Tugela Heights, Relief of Lady Smith & Laings Nek as well as the KSA 2 clasps. He left South Africa on 13 Sept 19023 and went home. He went back to India on 19th Dec 1906 till 20th Dec 1908 for home. Awarded his LS&GC in 1911 and left service 27th Sept 1912 after 21 years.
