Albert William Dunton born 10th Aug 1885 in Hornsey, London and educated at Askes School and London University. He joined the Civil Service Commission becoming a clerk second division in the India Office LG 31 Jul 1903 till Dec 1914 when he was sent on military service. He joined on 9th Dec 1915 as a Private in the Inns of Court OTC numbered 8268
He joins the Machine Gun Corps Infantry as a temporary 2nd Lt on 25th Oct 1915. His medal index card shows service from 14th Oct 1917 in France, Belgium and Mesopotamia. He is awarded an Military Cross LG 18th Mar 1918 - For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He made several reconnaissances in a heavily shelled area before the attack, and showed great devotion to duty in keeping his guns in action under very heavy shell fire, and attending to the wounded, although he was severely shaken by the explosion of a shell. He was invalided from Mesopotamia on 22nd Sep 1918 and sent home on 10th Jan 1919. He left the army on 9th July 1919 by then a Captain.
In 1919 he went back to the Civil Service and became the Chief Executive Officer of the India office, being awarded an OBE Civil Division LG 1st Jan 1938.
