A good fighting Military Cross group to the Middlesex Regt.WW1 Military Cross - not named.1914/15 Star named 4378 SJT E D ALCOCK R FUS.British War & Victory Medals named LIEUT E D ALCOCK.Edwin Dixon Alcock from Stockport, Cheshire joined up Sept 1914 as a Private 4378 with the Public Schools Battalions Royal Fusiliers. He was with the 20th & 29th Battalions and rose through the ranks to become a Sgt in December 1915. He saw active service with them. In February 1916 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt into the 3/9th Middlesex Regt. On 8th October 1916 while attached to the 1/13th London Regt TF he was wounded by Gun Shot Wounds and shock, he was sent back to England.He was made a Lt with effect 3rd August 1917.After recovering from his wounds he was back with the Middlesex and is listed in the London Gazette 16/10/1917 as winning a Military Cross for For Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while in command of a carrying company. With great courage and skill he led his men through a heavy barrage, carrying ammunition to the vicinity of the front line. During the latter part of the journey the company was subject to hostile machine gun fire, in addition to being shelled. Although suffering many casualties, he delivered the whole of the ammunition at the appointed place.On the 1st November 1918 while attached to the 2nd Middlesex he was sent back to England suffering influenza and later relinguished his commission.
