James was from Bradford and landed in France with the Royal Field Artillery as a Driver on the 11th Sept 1914. He was listed in the London Gazette on 13th March 1919as being awarded an MM with D Battery of the 1st Trench Mortar Battery Royal Field Artillery. Next he is listed in the London Gazette of 21st July 1919 being awarded his French award again with the same Battery. His card notes the battery were with the 24th Brigade.
