He was sent to the Front in 24th May 1917 with the 10th Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regt.On 14th July 1917 he was wounded at duty and in Nov 1917 was sent to hospital with Trench Foot. He was sent back to the UK.He was awarded the Military Medal in the LG 14th Jan 1918. Probably awarded for Ypres.He was transferred to the RASC numbered M/317398 on the 6th Dec 1918.
