Thomas Penman enlisted into the 1/7th Fife Black Watch numbered 3322 and landed in France on 1st July 1915. He was renumbered 291020 mid way through the war. He rose through the ranks to become a Sjt. Thomas won an MM for the Battle of Arras from 9th April 1917 to 20th April 1917. The losses for the battalion were massive with casualties of 12 officers and 323 other ranks.
