Naval Long Service & Good Conduct Medal named M7505 E HILLMAN LCK HMS VIVID.
Ernest Hillman born 3rd July 1895 in Launceston, Cornwall and enlisted into the Royal Navy numbered M7505 on 30th April 1914 as a 3rd Class Cook. When WW1 struck he was on HMS Isis till 20th Jun 1917 when he joined HMS Vivid (Naval Barracks) till 8th Feb 1918, when he went to HMS Powerful by now a Cook, till the war ended. He carried on in the Navy reaching Leading Cook in 1922 and was pensioned in 1936 by now a CPO Cook. He re-enlisted in 1938 and when war started he was on HMS Cheshire but then spent time ashore until invalided in Aug 1942. He did about 26 years service.
