Samuel Stokes born 1804 in Middlesex has merchant service before he joined the Royal Navy aged 20 years old in 1824 as he was appointed as an Able Seaman on HMS Seringapatam in Sept 1824 till Sept 1827, HMS Rose to Dec 1827 where he earned his Navarino clasp as a Boatswains Mate. HMS Ariadne till Mar 1828, HMS Dryad till June 1829 and HMS Pallas till Mar 1831. This boat landed in Portsmouth with passengers from Countess of Harcourt transport which was wrecked in Greece.
HMS Dublin Apr 1831 to May 1832, HMS Voltage till Jan 1833 when she landed with $1.2m of treasures, also took part in the Blockade of Holland. He left the Royal Navy Jan 1833 and joined the Coast Guards till Aug 1864 after nearly 40 years service. No LS&GC medals in those days.
He died in Cornwall July 1879 aged 75 years old.
