James Aggatt born in Moretonhampstead, Devon in 1863 and was a 21 year old labourer when he enlisted into the Devonshire Regt numbered 1496 on 8th Dec 1884 . After training he was sent to Egypt on 1st Dec 1885 to 24th May 1886 (no mention of Egypt medal or on rolls), next Malta till 17th Feb 1888, India till 2nd July 1892 and then home. Sent to South Africa from 9th Mar 1900 till 11th Nov 1901 and discharged at home on 16th Feb 1902 after 17 years service.
