Queens South Africa Medal clasps Defence of Ladysmith, Orange Free State & Transvaal named 3731 PTE J ELLIOTT 1ST L N LANC REGT.
James Elliott born in 1873 in Preston, Lancashire was an 18 year old Moulder when he enlisted into the 1st Loyal North Lancs Regiment numbered 3731 on 11th Oct 1892. He had previous TA service with the 3rd Battalion. After training he was sent to India on 10th Nov 1892 till 19th Feb 1896 when he was sent to Ceylon till 10th Feb 1899. He now saw service in South Africa in the Boer War earning a QSA 3 clasp and KSA 2 clasp till 10th Sept 1902 when he was sent home and discharged on 2nd Apr 1909 after 17 years service. He would not be entitled to a LS&GC as he spent some time in jail during his career.
