James Harrison was born in Barony, Glasgow in 1876 and was a Glass Maker when he enlisted aged 18 into the ScottishRifles. Previously he was in the 3rd Battalion ScottishRifles Militia. He was numbered 4976 and did his training with the 1st Battalion before moving to the 2nd. On the 23rd Oct 1899 he landed in South Africa with the 2nd Battalion and took part in the Boer War. He went back to the UK on 12th Oct 1902 and left the army on the 26th June 1906.
