Queens South Africa Medal clasps Cape Colony, Transvaal & Wittebergen named 586 PTE O RUDOLPH KAFFRN RIFLES.
Trooper Rudolph was in the 2nd Brabants Horse and Kaffrarian Rifles numbered 586 on both rolls and confirmed as Killed in Action. Other rolls confirm 1561 Trooper Rudolph killed in action on 29th Jan 1901 at Tabaksberg.
Chief Commandant C R de Wet on 27th Jan 1901 broke up his laager and marched south with great rapidity. Maj Gen Sir C E Knox followed, and the columns of Pilcher and Crewe fought a very hotly contested action with De Wet's rear-guard at Tabaksberg on the 29th Jan 1901. In this action the Kaffrarian Rifles bore the bulk of the casualties, their losses being 5 killed and about 20 wounded, including Lieutenant Weber.
Trooper Rudolph was one of the 5 killed that day.
