      Queens South Africa Medal clasps Natal & Belfast & Kings South Africa Medal clasps South Africa 1901 & 1902 both named 1249 PTE J TAYLOR DEVON REGT.


      John Taylor born in Holsworth, Devon in 1867 and was in the TA unit 4th Battalion Devonshire Regt when he enlisted into the 2nd Devonshire Regiment numbered 1249 on 19th May 1885 as an 18 year old labourer. After training he was sent to India on 9th Sep 1887 where he earned the Indian General Service Medal clasps Burma 1889/92 & Lushai 1889/92 till 20th Feb 1893, when sent to Home. When the Boer War started he was sent to South Africa with the 1st Battalion and then transferred to 2nd Battalion from 28th Feb 1900 till 12th May 1902 earning a QSA 2 clasps & KSA 2 clasps. He went home and was discharged on 18th May 1902.
