      1914/15 Star, British War & Victory Medals all named named 2410 PTE W BEARD A CYC CORPS, Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal named 7868021 SJT W BEARD TANK CORPS & GVIR Army Meritorious Service Medal named 786021 WOCL 2 W BEARD R TKS. Note number wrong on MSM by 1 digit.


      William Beard was born in Sydenham, Kent in 1886 and enlisted into the Army on 8th Aug 1906. When WW1 came he was in the Army Cyclist Corps numbered 2047 and landed in the Balkans on 16th Mar 1915. He transferred to the Tank Corps numbered 75347 in 1916 and served in France. He survived the war and signed on for another 2 years in Feb 1919 with the Royal Tank Corps numbered 7868021 to complete 21 years service. His service in WW1 was Dardanelles, Egypt and France. He was awarded his LS&GC in 1925 and the MSM between 1949 to 1952. He was discharged in 1927.


      His RTC service shows during WW1 he was in Royal Engineers/4th Dorset Regt probably all home service as would have been 53 years old.
