Sydney Herbert Pryke born in Bury St Edmonds on 22nd Feb 1900. He was a labourer when he enlisted into the Royal Navy aged 15 as a Boy 2nd Class. He did his training onshore at HMS Ganges till June 1916 when he joined HMS Dido (Lydiard). HMS Lydriad was a destroyed that had just returned from the Battle of Jutland, he stayed there till Sept 1916 when he went to HMS Pembroke I a shore establishment. HMS Euryalus from Nov 1916 to Oct 1916 when he joined HMS Venus till Jan 1919, She was a Cruiser based in the Far East during the war.
Sydney went back to shore on HMS Pembroke I till Oct 1919 when he joined HMS Clio a Sloop which took part in the Mad Mullah expedition and others earning him his NGSM & AGSM till Dec 1920.
