John Wilson from Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire enlisted into the 1/5th Leicestershire Regiment numbered 3651 on 16th Jan 1915. He landed in France on 29th Jun 1915, later renumbered 241316. He was wounded in action on 21st Nov 1915 with gun shot wound to head and was send back to the UK to get better. He recovered and was back in France on 17th Mar 1916. He caught scabies on 21st Mar 1917 and spent most of the next four months in and out of hospital. He was sent back to UK on 8th July 1917 and then discharged with silver war badge due to his head injuries and awarded a pension.
