Robert Gillespie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and enlisted into the Rifle Brigade numbered 523 on 11th Jun 1825. He served 11 years in North America, 5 years in Malta & Jamaica Islands & 1 year in South Africa 1846/47 out of a total of 23 years service. No LS&GC as he had 3 black marks and was once a Sjt before being reduced to Pte again. He left on 31st Jan 1848 due to illness.
