William Manham born 1829 in Hengreve, Suffolk enlisted aged 16 years old on 29th Apr 1845 into the army with the 12th Foot numbered 2341. He was sent to Mauritius for 4 1/2 years and then sent to South Africa and took part in the Kaffir War for 7 1/2 years. He served until 1857 and was recommended for the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal with gratuity £5.
