South Africa Medal 1877-79 no clasp named 2126 PTE C SPARKS 17TH DCO LRS. Lovely old cabinet tone, almost extremely fine.
Charles Spinks born in North Petherton, Bridgewater in 1859 enlisted into the 17th Lancers numbered 2026 on 6th July 1877 as a 18 year old groom. After training was sent to South Africa on 25th July 1879 and took part in the Zulu campaign till 4th Aug 1879 when sent home. He transferred to the 9th Lancers numbered 2094 and then went to India on 10th Mar 1880 till 22nd Nov 1885 when they were sent home. He left the army as a Shoeing Smith on 2nd July 1879.
