Benjamin Johnson born in 1851 in Kinfare, Staffordshire and was a draper when he enlisted into the 10th Foot numbered 2004 on 22nd Mar 1869. After training he was sent to East Indies from 3rd Feb 1870 to 19th Feb 1873, Home till 5th Aug 1878. Malta next till 21st Mar 1881, Gibraltar till 2nd Jan 1891, then East Indies till 1st May 1891 when they went home. He was discharged a Colour Sgt on 19th May 1881 after 22 years of service and only awarded the LS&GC. He was in trouble in 1875 for being drunk and reduced to private but came back pretty quickly.
