Thomas Dowrick born Parranarworthal, Cornwall on 17th Dec 1831 and was a 25 year old blacksmith when he enlisted into the Royal Navy numbered 27949 on 6th Feb 1856. His first ship was HMS Magicienne as a stoker till 30th Apr 1861. Next HMS Indus till 18th Mar 1862, HMS Medea till 22nd Jun 1865 which served on the North America and West Indies shores. HMS Indus till 6th Jun 1866 and then Lord Clyde till 12th Aug 1868 when he joined HMS Northumberland till 18th July 1870. HMS Basilisk was next which served off the Australian Coast and founded the town Fairfax before going after slavery traders in the South Pacific waters till 15th Nov 1874 by now he was a Leading Stoker and renumbered 72911. HMS Indus till 13th Apr 1875 and then HMS Jackal till 7th Dec 1875. Finally HMS Indus till 31st Mar 1876 by now 30 years service and he was paid off.
