Thomas Stopp born in Eversholt, Bedfordshire and aged 19 years old labourer enlisted into the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 4th May 1854 as a Private in the Portsmouth Depot. After training he joined HMS Oberon 19th Feb 1855 till 10th Jan 1857, during which he served in the Crimean War earning the medal with Sebastopol clasp and the Turkish medal. He was next on HMS Victoria & Albert from 15th Apr 1857 to 9th June 1857, HMS Conquer & Urgent 6th Sep 1857 to 16th Mar 1859. Then HMS Arrogant for Meander 25th Sep 1859 to 20th Jan 1860, HMS Victoria & Albert 13th Feb 1863 to 31 Dec 1874. He left 2nd Sept 1875.
He next re-enlisted back into the Royal Navy numbered 108995 as a DSC onboard HMS Asia till 4th July 1881.
