      WW1 1914/15 Star named 2/LT A H BIRD LINC R, British War & Victory Medals named LIEUT A H BIRD.


      Ashley Hinckes Bird born 22nd Apr 1893 in Chelsea, London. He lived with his parents at Trafalgar Square and brother Eric who DOW with the 25 Squadron Royal Flying Corps on 27th Jun 1916. Ashley attended Westminster School and attend Oxford University leaving in 1912. He enlisted into the Royal Fusiliers as a 2nd Lt and then transferred to the 6th Lincolnshire Regiment. He was sent to Gallipoli on 30th June 1915 and is listed as being wounded in action on 7th Aug 1915 attacking Chocolate Hill in the Westminster School WW1 archive. They are sent to the Somme in France and he is transferred to the 7th Battalion. On 9th July 1916 War Diary, he is noted as being wounded a second time by Oxford Time 29th Jul 1916 as well as the Westminster School WW1 archive. Transferred to the 1st Battalion he is again noted as WIA (third time) at the Battle of Arras 1917 with B Coy War Diary and in the Westminster School WW1 Archives. He survived the war.
