      Description:

      1914/15 Star named CAPT A G HOULDER 2-LOND R, British War & Victory Medals, with MID oak leaves named LT COL A G HOULDER. Comes with 2nd Battalion London Regiment medallion, bronze, the reverse engraved ‘Houlder Trophy 1927’.


      Alec Guy Houlder born 20th Dec 1878 in Sutton, Surrey, educated at Kings College London and was a Solicitor by profession. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the 2nd (City of London) London Regiment on 30th Mar 1909 and was promoted to Capt on 26th Jul 1912. He was promoted temporary Maj on 23rd Sep 1914, temporary Lieutenant-Colonel on 13 October 1915 . He landed in Egypt in Dec 1915 in command of the 2nd London Regiment at Gallipoli from 13 October 1915. He was awarded a MID LG 13th Jul 1916. He was given command of the 2/17th London Regiment on 20th Sep 1916 which fought in Salonika. He left service on 17th Mar 1917 due to sickness and was sent for Salonika to Malta on 20th Mar 1917, arriving back in UK on 16th May 1917. He relinquished his commission on account of ill health on 1st Sep 1918, and was granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, as well as a Silver War Badge. After the war he was put in command of the 2nd London Regiment again.
