      1914 Star with original bar named 7120 PTE J GALLOWAY 1/LINC R, British War & Victory Medals named 7120 PTE J GALLOWAY LINCS R & Memorial Plaque named JOHN GALLOWAY.


      John Galloway was born in Bradford and a Wool Comber when he enlisted into the 1st Lincolnshire Regt numbered 7120 on 28th Jul 1904. He landed in France on 14th Aug 1914 and took part in The Battle of Mons and the subsequent retreat, including the the rearguard action of Solesmes, The Battle of Le Cateau and The Battle of the Marne.


      On the 19th Sep 1914 they were in the trenches suffering heavy artillery barrage when the enemy attacked but they were driven back with 1 casualty and 3 wounded. Sadly this casualty was John Galloway who was only 27 years old. He is remembered on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial.
