Alfred Duncan Hays born 1884 and was a civil servant was a sgt in the 5th Loyal North Lancs Territorial Force numbered 5028 when he agreed to go aboard on 19th Aug 1915. He attained a commission again in the Loyals on 16th Aug 1915 as a 2nd Lt. He was made a Temp Capt on 20th Jan 1916 till 11th Mar 1917. He landed in France on 28th Apr 1917 with the 2/5th battalion and stayed with them till 14th Nov 1917 when he was sent to Army Masketing School as a teacher. He injured his knee in an accident while training and was sent back to the UK on 1st Dec 1917 to recover. He must have recovered as he went to Egypt, probably with the 6th battalion. He was finally released his commission on 20th Dec 1921.
