WW1 British War Medal named LIEUT E W HALLAM RAF.
Edgar William Hallam born in Holloway, London on 15th Oct 1889 and enlisted into the City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) numbered 2412 and was sent to Egypt on 7th May 1915. He gained a commission in the South Notts Hussars on 10th Jan 1916. He then joined the fledging Royal Flying Corps on 18th Sep 1916 and joined 1st Squadron, then 23rd Squadron. He crashed on 21st May 1917 flying a Spad VII numbered B1532 during a forced landing at Rubempre, north of Amiens he hit a wire fence there after becoming lost on offensive patrol - no injury. He crash again on 25th May 1917 due to engine failure after being forced down in combat claimed by Uffz F Gillie near Monchy and was wounded. He became a Armanent Instructor and looks like he stop flying as he was unfit for flying. He became ill in middle of 1918 and was hospitalised. He was discharged on 21st Apr 1919.
WW2 comes along and he joins the RAF Volunteers as a Lt numbered 75269 in 1939, discharged due to illness and then dies on 22nd Jan 1945 and buried in Hillingdon & Uxbridge Cemetry.
