WW1 British War Medal named 2 LIEUT C G RIDOUT.
Clarence Grosvenor Ridout born 21st Sep 1885 in St Pancras, London and was a clerk when he enlisted as a Private in the Reserve Cavalry and allotted number 16546. He was commissioned 2nd Lt in the 1st Kings Shropshire Light Infantry on 7 Apr 1915. After training he landed in France on 7 Dec 1915 with the 9th Battalion.
On 19th Dec 1915 the battalion is in the trenches at La Brique, when at 5.15am a gas attack is launched against the trenches. It turns out the gas is a new type and last about an hour with the enemy attacking in large forces across the line but are beaten back, inflicting large losses on them. 2nd Lt Ridout is noted as being affected by the gas, with 2 killed, 14 wounded and 4 die of the gas. 2nd Lt Ridout is sent to Field Ambulance but dies from the affects on 22nd Dec 1915 at 10th Casualty Clearing Station. He is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.
