Ralph Luttrell Bailey born 1879 in Hopesay, Shropshire and was a clerk in the London Stock Exchange in 1901. On 10th Apr 1915 he was appointed a Temporary 2nd Lt in the Machine Gun Corps. Awarded a Military Cross LG 18th Jul 1917 - For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Throughout 48 hours, when commanding his section, which was scattered over a wide field, he continued to visit his guns. It was entirely due to his personal disregard for danger under heavy fire that his guns were handled to such good advantage. Temporary Lt and then acting Captain 8th Mar 1917. Acting Major 21st Mar 1918 in command of a company. Relinquishes rank on ceasing to command a Co 14th Aug 1918. Granted rank of Major LG 20th Oct 1921.
Ralph was a masonic member of the Macuncor Ceres Lodge 4139 which was the Machine Gun Corps lodge. After the war he worked in the City of London Stock Exchange as a dealer.
