Harold York Irwine born in Japan on 8th Mar 1882 was irish by birth and was in the Colombo (Ceylon) Town Guard Artillery numbered 15 on 4th Jan 1915 as a Bombadier till 29th Feb 1916 when he applied for a commission and travelled to the UK. He attended 3b Reserve Brigade RFA for training in Exeter on 28th April 1916 as a Cadet Officer aged 34 years old.
Commissioned into the 76th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery on 3rd Aug 1916 and landed in France on 16th Sept 1916. On the 9th Oct 1917 he was wounded in action, Gun Shot Wound to right arm at the Battle of Ypres and was sent back to the UK on 12th Oct 1917. He got better and was sent back to France. On 3rd Nov 1918 he was sent to the Railway Construction till Dec 1918 when he returned to UK. Appointed A/Major to a siege battery and thenreleased from service on 18th Feb 1919.
He won the MC LG 3rd June 1919 attached to the 493rd Seige Battery RGA.
