Roland Edward Acril Richardson born July 1898 in Sculcoates, Hull and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the West Riding Brigade, Royal Garrison Artillery (Territorial Force) on 24th Jun 1917, and served attached to the 342nd Siege Battery in France from 24th Jan 1918. In 1920 he won a scholarship to read Classics at King's College. Following the outbreak of the Second World War he was granted an Emergency Commission as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 16th Sept 1939, and post-War served as a Lieutenant in the Silcoates School Contingent, Combined Cadet Force. He resigned his commission on 31 August 1952, and was granted the honorary rank of Major. He died on 24th Jun 1953 in Wakefield, Yorkshire.
